St. Mary’s Church and School

The St. Mary’s parish played a central role in the New Castle community, founding New Castle’s first parochial school in 1871, initially staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, with a dedicated school building opened in 1876. St. Mary’s also had significant involvement in establishing other Catholic churches in New Castle, effectively acting as the mother church for several missions and ethnic congregations.
