The original mill was built in 1852 by Daniel Kennedy on Slippery Rock Creek and was later acquired by Thomas McConnell in 1875. McConnell upgraded the mill with new technology, making it one of the first rolling mills in the country, processing corn, oats, wheat, and buckwheat for local farmers. The mill operated until 1928 before being closed.
