George Washington Junior High School

George Washington Junior High School opened in New Castle, Pennsylvania, in September 1928. Designed by architect A.L. Thayer and located on Euclid Avenue in the North Hill neighborhood, the school was named for the first president in 1927 and formally dedicated on February 22, 1929.

For over 50 years, it served students in grades 7 through 9. However, due to budget constraints and declining enrollment, the junior high closed in 1982.

After a significant renovation, the building reopened in 1988 as the George Washington Intermediate School, now educating students in grades 3 through 6. While it has since been expanded and modernized, the building retains its historical character and continues to be an important community education center.
